Getting rid of flies is a very difficult job, flies are the worst and most dangerous insects that you come across in your homes. They do not sting or bite you but they are the carriers of several deadly diseases like cholera, diarrhea etc.

Most of you would not be knowing that a when a common housefly doesn't have biting moth parts and hence it can only consume semisolid and liquid foods. When a fly sits on any solid food item it vomits on the food and crates a liquid solution of it, then sucks it and consequently infects the food.

Today, I am going to show you few natural ways that you can do to avoid flies. The best part about these methods is that they are natural and hence they do not pollute the environment and they are safe for your pets and children.

  1. Insense: It has been scientifically proved that flies hate smoke. You could use Citronella candles in your living area to deter flies. When you lit Citronella candles they slowly emit a subtle incense that flies cannot bear.

  2. Herbs: Using herbs like basil, bay leaves, mint, lavender etc. can help you to deter flies. The science behind this is that, they herbs release a sweet fragrance that flies hate. The good thing is that the fragrance of these herbs suits well to humans.

  3. Borax: Sprinkling borax on trash cans, where flies breed kills them instantly. Borax is known to have insecticidal properties and it is particularly effective against flies.

  4. Dish Soap: A solution of luke warm water and dish soap also proves effective against flies. Dish Soap contains borax and as I have foretold that borax has insecticidal properties and hence it kills flies instantly. You could put 5 -10 drops of a dish soap in an empty spray bottle and then add a cup of luke warm water to it and spray it on flies.

  5. Molasses and Black Pepper: A mixture if molasses and lack pepper can also help you in removing flies. You can create a mixture of molasses and black pepper and keep it in a shallow dish. Flies get attracted to this mixture and when they land of it they get stuck due to the adhesive properties of molasses.

  6. Homemade Fly Paper: Most of you would have already heard about commercially available fly papers. But you could also create one at home, for this you need a brown paper bag, corn syrup and few strings. First cut the paper bag into 2 inch strips. Put the corn syrup in the pan and heat it for 2 minutes then immerse the strips into the pan. Keep them for 8-10 hours in the pan and finally tie them with a string in the fly infested area.

  7. Using Water Bag: Many people say that a transparent water bag, when hung near the entrance can help in deterring flies. To use this method, take a transparent plastic bag, fill it half with water and then using a string hang it in the fly infested area.
